Un tranquilo paseo por las calles de San Cristóbal de La Laguna basta para entender por qué forma parte de la lista de la UNESCO. Como si estuviese en una máquina del tiempo, el viajero se siente trasladado a hace más de 500 años, cuando se configuró el trazado de la ciudad inspirándose en las cartas de navegación. De hecho, el plano de San Cristóbal se lee como un “mapa estelar” y ha sido el antecedente de ciudades como La Habana o Lima. Hoy, esa especie de esencia colonial queda intacta.

As if in a time machine, the traveller feels transported back to more than 500 years ago, when the layout of the city was inspired by navigational charts. In fact, the plan of San Cristóbal reads like a "star map" and has been the forerunner of cities like Havana or Lima. Today, that kind of colonial essence remains intact.
