Living in El Draguito: Rural Simplicity Away from the Noise

El Draguito is a tiny hamlet located inland from Chimiche, in the higher part of Granadilla de Abona. Remote and peaceful, it offers an opportunity to live off-grid or semi-off-grid, surrounded by volcanic landscape, nature trails, and farmland. It's best suited to buyers looking for total disconnection from urban life.

Property here is limited but affordable. Old houses or ruins with land may be found from €70,000 to €120,000. Restored rural homes range between €140,000 and €220,000. Many include land for cultivation or even vineyards.

There are no community fees and IBI is minimal. Many properties are on rustic land (suelo rústico), so usage regulations must be checked carefully. Some homes rely on water deliveries or tanks, solar panels, or gas installations.

The housing is basic and natural. Expect stone houses, wood beams, outdoor terraces, and dry gardens. It’s common to see animals, greenhouses, or self-sustaining projects here.

There are no services in El Draguito — the closest town with shops is Chimiche, about 10 minutes away. Owning a car is essential. Life here is defined by quiet, independence, and contact with nature.

The weather is sunny, dry, and cooler than the coast — especially in winter. The area receives fresh breezes and clear skies most of the year.

The population is very sparse. A few Canarian families and independent residents — some locals, some foreign — live here year-round. It’s not for everyone, but for those seeking silence and land, it’s ideal.
